In 2007, I was in a theater watching The Great Debaters, a film that portrays the unwavering resilience and courage of a people facing horrific adversity. One scene in particular impacted me so deeply I walked away from the theater that night asking God, “Where are our stories?” Not just the stories of Latino struggle, but of resiliency in spite of struggle. Where are the stories that reflect the SUPERPOWERS of our culture: faith, family, community, artistic expression, JOY, humility, and passion back into the world? It was a turning point for me, and from that night on I set out to find our stories and, most importantly, our storytellers. This past week has been a testament to that journey and to the storytellers who’ve been building along the way.
