β€œIt’s gotta be the shoes!” @jumpman23 @quai54wsc @360_creative πŸ™ŒπŸΎπŸ™ŒπŸΎπŸ™ŒπŸΎ Here’s a lil β€œHow it started vs. How it’s going” story for y’all. 1990: First pair of Js I ever got were the AJVs. Had both the black and the white pair. OGs. 16 years old. I was the only kid in my class to have them, which changed my social status for the years to come πŸ˜† The only other kid in my school to have them was a rich kid, got his bought by his parents. Got mines with my own resources. Very different. I was a πŸ›Ή kid but I loved πŸ€ and went out to all the summer tournaments to watch legends like Moustapha Sonko πŸ‡ΈπŸ‡³ play like we thought β€œonly Americans could’’. What a time. My friend / πŸ›Ή teammate @alexanderwiseparis was the first person to tell me then about #TinkerHatfield, the genius designer of the most popular Air Jordans, and how the AJV’s design was inspired by fighter plane designs. I became fascinated by Tinker’s work and the idea that a πŸ‘Ÿ design could encapsulate so much interesting storytelling, which eventually led me to meeting him in 2005 and having him in a few films I made about πŸ‘Ÿ design / culture (Do your research, youngblood!) 2021: @alexanderwiseparis and I πŸ™‹πŸΎβ€β™‚οΈ are up to co-designing our 5th capsule collection (yes you read that right) in collaboration with @jumpman23 for @quai54wsc, my very own summer basketball tournament 🏟 πŸ™ŒπŸΎ (Yes you read that right x 2). Pause: If you can’t respect that, your whole perspective is wack. (Hov voice πŸ—£) This year, we got to apply our own design / storytelling perspectives on 2 Quai 54 AJVs (white and black), as well as a full πŸ‘Ÿ + πŸ‘• capsule collection, with a design story tied to the visual environment we created for the event.
