Tonight in 1957, a young girl from Winchester, VA stepped in front of a national television audience and won the hearts of America. Presented by her "Talent Scout" (and Mother) Ms. Hilda Hensley, she sang a tune that would become one of her signature songs- "Walkin' After Midnight". After a brief interview with Mr. Godfrey, Ms. Hensley introduced Patsy and when the song was finished, the applause meter soared far into the winning range. The single was rush released by Decca Records to capitalize on the thousands of requests that were coming into Mr. Godfrey's offices. A rare picture sleeve was also issued with a slight adjustment. At the suggestion of the producers of the show, it was advised that Mom wear something else for the broadcast, other than the usual hand made western dresses that were worn at most of her performances. It appears that Decca also wanted to promote the song to the Pop Music field and altered Mom's original publicity photo to show her wearing a cocktail dress in order to promote the record to a broader audience. The song was also re-recorded a few years later with a new arrangement. Did you know that both Buddy Holly and Elvis auditioned for the show at one point but were not picked to be on TV? #PatsyCline #WalkinAfterMidnight
