A close cosmetic industry friend requested I share my information with an executive headhunter who specializes in filling high-level positions in cosmetic companies.
I was surprised by their request because I've been in meetings with corporate cosmetic "group managers" that were less than half my age. So why would a headhunter want to speak to me?
But my friend insisted.
I reluctantly agreed, even though I'm not actively looking for a full-time position. The conversation (with the headhunter) was eye-opening, to say the least.
Who knew knowledge, talent, and decades of experience were unplaceable traits?
Is there such a thing as being "overqualified in an industry that evolves at lightning speed, and where knowledge, well-honed critical thinking skills, and the ability to multi-task under pressure are essential job requirements?
Or was this a politically correct way to let me know I'm too old to be considered?
What do you think?
Do you believe someone with my background is overqualified, or is it subtle ageism?
