In 1965, a modernist house in East Lothian, built by Scottish architect Ian Arnott, was considered so progressive that people from the neighbourhood complained to the local press about it. “He obviously had a great sense of humour because Arnott would reply to those who moaned,” laughs the current owner, fashion stylist Katie Connelly (@katiedanger_ ). “But if you touched the building now, I think the community would be quite upset.” Lucky, then, that it will soon be listed. Katie and her husband, Jordan, a director, were “proper city people” but things changed when they first came across Arnott’s former home. Although they viewed the house “just to be nosey”, they fell in love with it’s architecture. Soon enough, the family (which includes Katie and Jordan’s three children) packed up their old life in a Georgian flat in Edinburgh. Now, having lived in the house since December, we find out how they’ve adapted to life in the country.
