Anxiety is a response to a perceived danger, it is our survival mechanism towards that danger. . When you have perceived a danger, survival mechanism gives you three options & you make a split decision depending on each situation. . What's the best way to survive this now? . Can I fight & defend myself, yes? Ok give me everything I need to do that. Tension, fear, strength, raised heart beat, focus on the prey/subject. . Can I avoid this, to get myself out of this danger, yes? Same give me all I need to help me move out of hear with urgency, tension, raised heart beat etc. A focus to get out. . If I perceive I do not have the choice to fight or flight then what? Protect, this is bigger than you, you do not have the skills, wait till it passes. Give me all i need to do this, reduce heart beat and tension. Etc focus on not moving. . Great if the danger is a wild animal, yes they may leave soon (seen an animal play dead?) but the brain does not have eyes so cannot tell if the danger is an animal or a situation you think is bigger than you, that you perhaps do not have the skills or shouldn't tell anyone. . What happens if this danger doesn't go away? In life there are many situations that require action for them to pass. . Bills debt Grief Letters that need your attention or threats of consequences. A problem you feel you cannot tell anyone about or show an emotion too. Etc . If you see these as something you cannot fight or avoid, or maybe you have avoided them but seems its no longer an option, without knowing about survival mechanism, freeze may seem very scary. . Don't move Lethargic I cant I feel depressed No way out. . Then how long can you keep that up until maybe the only option that comes into your head is to avoid or fight the feeling. The last resort may seem like a logical process when we think about it like this in survival terms. However. . It is not the only option You can speak to someone, you have to allow yourself to. There are solutions to your situations if you speak to someone so that you're not alone &👇
