When picking out roses you need to squeeze the base of the bloom just above the calyx (which is just above the stem). If the rose if firm (like your’e squeeing a rubber bouncy ball, it’s fresh, if it’s more soft like squeeing your palm just below your thumb, they are likely older). you can’t always tell just by looking at them if they are fresh or not as Some may look closed and others are more bloomed or open. This is a basic rule of thumb as some varieties of roses naturally have a looser petal structure which doesn’t necessarily correlate to their freshness.
