In the early 80’s I participated in an event signing my book The Last Step on the first American ascent of K2, and sat next to Ray Bradbury, the great Sci-Fi writer, Chuck Jones, the inventor of Bugs Bunny and Buzz Aldrin. Later at dinner Buzz told me when, along with Neil Armstrong, he was the first to walk on the moon, he was afraid to step into shadows. Because there is essentially no atmosphere on the moon, sunlight does not scatter like it does on earth, so every time he approached a shadow he instinctively pulled back because all the shadows were unfathomably deep. A friend recently sent me this shot and I noticed the guy in the back was Sonny Bono of Sonny & Cher. No recollection of what he was doing there. @PatagoniaBooks. #LifeLivedWildBook
