Even to those familiar with the process of having a suit tailor made, having one made by Emily Nolan is an adventure – one that starts with a cup of tea. Nolan, 28, learnt how to sew from her grandmothers. She founded E Nolan as a ready-to-wear clothing line in 2016 before moving into bespoke tailoring in 2019. Obsessed with “appropriating the beautiful techniques of menswear for everyone”, she won a reputation among brides and clients looking for occasion wear. The surprise growth segment, she says, has been women wanting suits. “At first I wondered, ‘who needs a suit? Will anyone come to see me?’ But suits are not just for work any more.” Nolan is photographed at her Melbourne showroom by Josh Robenstone. Read fashion editor Lauren Sams' full Portrait feature via the bio link. Our Fashion issue is out on August 26 inside the @FinancialReview. 📰: @laurenssams 📷: @joshrobenstone
