Went out west the other day for the sole purpose of looking like a early 2000s sitcom šŸ˜‚ Really though, words don’t do justice to the feeling of this moment. I remember watching ā€œAwkward Black Girlā€ in my college dorm room with my friends longing for more nuanced portrayals of women who look like me. Now after covering this show since the first season when I was a baby journalist, we’re celebrating the final season of @insecurehbo, a show that isn’t just about showing us, but making sure we feel SEEN. Celebrating a show that not only has this kind of impact but is also created for and by Black people who have the space to end their show properly is such a rarity. Watching @issarae, Prentice Penny and @msmelina build upon the legacy of Black television in a way that has created opportunities for so many Black creatives in front of and behind the camera has been so empowering. The energy at the premiere earlier this week reflected that. Grateful to be a witness to this moment alongside other amazing storytellers. And grateful to @my_sherri_amour for holding it all the way down for THE dummy mission of the year šŸ¤£šŸ™šŸ¾ Excited to give these creators their flowers right here and right now. #SeasonByeve let’s get it! P.S. Read my piece on why saying goodbye to ā€œInsecureā€ is so bittersweet. Link in bio! P.S.S. Last slide is me talking my sh*t, prepping for my own me season. Act like you know.
