Join us at “Runway Reclaimed," a free fashion event open to the public! This event is hosted by Hawaiian Aroma Caffe at the Waikiki Beachcomber by Outrigger THIS FRIDAY November 11th, starting at 6 PM. “Runway Reclaimed” thrives on cultivating sustainable fashion and reducing textile waste by hosting the leading vintage stores, collectors and sustainable designers in Honolulu, as well as showcasing a wide array of mixed media and up-cycled fashion in a fashion show. This show will feature over 15 models wearing more than 80 different looks put together by the participating shops and designers! This collaborative movement was brought to life by @summasea to encourage our community to reuse, upcycle, and restyle existing pieces, reducing consumerism, textile waste, and carbon emissions. The impact of fast fashion is vast and in need of change. The industry creates an average of 92 million tons of waste each year, most of which ends up in landfills in developing countries. 39,000 TONS of unsold clothing from the U.S. and Europe are dumped yearly in the Atacama Desert located in Chile. Upcycled fashion involves cutting, printing, and sewing surplus scrap and deadstock textiles that will be thrown away into new garments, creating a second life for them! A portion of the proceeds will be donated to our organization to support things like our cleanups, education, and innovation programs!
