My garden is flowering! The beautiful magnolia was a gift from my beloved Brett for our anniversary in October! And now it is filled with flower buds! Some of them started opening 😍 My bougainvilleas and lavenders are blooming too! Japanese magnolia (Magnolia x soulangeana) is a hybrid magnolia developed in the early 1800s by Chevalier Etienne Soulange-Bodin, director of the French Royal Institute. The tree is a cross between Yulan magnolia (Magnolia heptapeta) and lily magnolia (Magnolia liliiflora), both of which hail from Japan. Japanese magnolia is a large shrub or small tree notable for its textured gray bark, long fuzzy buds and waxy, six-petaled, goblet-shaped flowers. Flowers are available in a spectrum of colors, from magenta to pale ballet pink, purple or white.
