Jay-Z and Memphis Bleek, photographed as they attended a MTV-documented party celebrating the success of The Dynasty: Roc La Familia on November 7, 2000. Jay is wearing a Rocawear head band, denim suit and long sleeve shirt; while Bleek is wearing the same Rocawear sweatshirt that Jigga wore in the “Do It Again (Put Ya Hands Up)” music video a year earlier.
Roc-A-Fella Records held the party to celebrate the album’s debut at the top of the Billboard 200, with over 560,000 copies having been moved in the first week of release. The event was held at the historic roller rink Skateland in Northridge, California. While the rap mogul wasn’t a huge fan of roller skating himself, he wanted to have an unique event where everybody could “be loose and have fun;” rather than “a tight event where everybody is just standing there looking at each other.” Upon arrival the security team gave the 200 guests a pair of skates to use while they danced to Mark Ronson’s DJ set. Attendees included Puff Daddy, Rashida Jones, Nicole Richie, Andre Harrell, Busta Rhymes, Redman, Ja Rule, Heavy D, Brandy, Carmen Electra, Bill Bellamy and Westlife’s Brian McFadden.
Jigga took to a stage in the middle of the rink during the party, performing his latest hit single “I Just Wanna Love U (Give it 2 Me)” and other crowd favorites. He began his victory speech by shouting out OutKast, whose album Stankonia had debuted second on the chart, expressing how “it’s a great thing for hip-hop to have two artists sell over half a million records in one week. It's just incredible for both of us to do the numbers that we're doing.” He continued with a shout out to “all the fans out there, everybody out there for making me number one in the country. I really, really appreciate all the support over the years. This is my fifth album in four years, and they’re still right there with me, getting even stronger. My first album did 34,000 units the first week. That’s a long, long way from half a million!”
