The thing about turning 40 is that it absolutely demands a moment of reflection. All birthdays do, but this one was a little different. I’ve lived long enough to learn some lessons, experience some consequences, and after 39 years of thrashing around with indecision, I’m starting to have a pretty good picture of what makes me happy: - A baking day with my Mom - Finger foods - A good dress - Fresh hair - Penuche frosted chocolate cupcakes - A low lit party on a Tuesday - Beautiful florals - Hugs - Friends that insist on singing happy birthday - The way my husband looks at me when he’s speaking in front of a crowd - Tequila cocktails - That damn lump in my throat that lets me know I’m surrounded by the very best I’ve been 40 for exactly one day and you all make aging pretty special.
