facing Jesse Owens park, stopped at a light on Century and Western while heading south. maybe still too soon and present for me to really call it “remembering” the film but something is slipping. before anything, any story, I was thinking about anthropology, preservation. thinking about what a community can see in 10 years (or remember?). partially the audience I’m waiting for can’t see the film yet, because we’re waiting on time. It’s me now when I watch Killer of Sheep or Bless Their Little Hearts. And those who know me know Chantal isn’t far away, D’est, News From Home. I want to think about cinema as a tool for anthropology. A tool to save something for now and come back later. to see what was there.
