When thinking about fossil fuels, we typically consider their finite status or the facts that emissions cause harm to the environment. One such example? Recently, California experienced a massive oil spill of at least 126,000 gallons which created a 13-square-mile oil slick. This was caused by the failure of a 17.5-mile pipeline. The sheer size and volume of the oil slick has cause irreversible damage to the environment, including the surrounding marshland. “Environmental groups said that the spill highlights the need for the state of California to move away from fossil fuels in favor of renewable energy.”
It is so important to consider the impact our actions have on the environment and we need to be mindful of the irreversible damage that can be caused. Whether it is carpooling, investing in electric cars, or taking public transportation, we should all try to do our part to cut down on use of fossil fuels.
