Big professor energy! ✨ Last March, my alma mater @limcollege reached out to me to teach marketing as an adjunct professor for the fall semester. I’m not big on titles, I am more focused on the assignment, but this was a proud moment as the first professor in my family. This experience stretchedddd me. It was very transformative. From initial nerves and imposter syndrome to newfound confidence and growth. Weeks before the semester kicked off, I remember talking to my hairstylist, Rochelle @schittaintthesame while she was cutting my hair being so nervous about the opportunity and God spoke to me through her. She reassured me of how fit I was for this because I have already been positioned for it. I’m deeply thankful for the chance to use my knowledge, certifications, degrees and experience to teach marketing and to build meaningful connections with my students. After all, I did say I wanted to dedicate time pouring into the next generation. I want to give a special nod to my mom and brother @_dee.f, who have spent their careers in education (my brother was promoted to Dean this year — talk to him nice!!). As a very young kid, before I knew what I wanted to do, I always used to say: “I want to be a teacher like my mommy” Walking in their world for a semester gave me an even deeper appreciation, admiration and respect for the work they do. And as I wrap up my time in the classroom and reflect on this season of life, a little over a year into working for myself and choosing a path on my own terms, I remain grateful for the flexibility to try unexpected opportunities, and grow through them. Never in a million years did I ever think that God had this assignment lined up for me. I now understand why I had to pursue it. I told very few loved ones about this and they all filled me up with the confidence I needed to get through the semester. I remain open to stretch assignments that shape me, and the freedom to say yes to them. Just a small Brooklyn girl, with big dreams. Thank you God for positioning me.
