Hyperpigmentation is a medical term used to describe darker patches of skin. These patches result from excess melanin production, which can be caused by everything from acne scars and sun damage to hormone fluctuations. If you're dealing with hyperpigmentation, know that you aren't alone. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ 🟣When treating hyperpigmentation using OTC products, it's good to tackle it via different stages of melanin formation (i.e. before, during, or after) using different pathways (such as inhibiting processes that play a role in melanin creation or by breaking down melanin.) ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ 🟣I've broken down the different pathways, along with ingredients that help. It's very likely that many products have a combination of these ingredients so you don't have to layer too many products at once - probably not a good idea to do that anyway since too many products at once could lead to irritation. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ What are your favorite products that target discoloration?
