Actress, singer, dancer, Nichelle Nichols has passed away at the age of 89. Nichols and her Star Trek character LT Uhura broke barriers as one of the first Black female leads on TV; and one in a position of power. A trailblazer and inspiration to many; Nichols was pivotal in the evolution of Uhara over multiple decades. In addition to the original series, she voiced the character on Star Trek: The Animated Series and played Uhara in the first six Star Trek films. Uhura was promoted to lieutenant commander in Star Trek: The Motion Picture and to full commander in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. A talented force on screen who leaves behind one of the most important legacies in TV history.
