As I always tell my kiddos, “If you’re the smartest person in the room, you’re in the wrong room.” If you find yourself lucky enough to be in the same room with @mgrisz, President + CEO of @fgidc, you know you’re exactly where you’re meant to be. Her interdisciplinary background (law, fashion, art, film, production) inspires me deeply. I began my career in fashion in the late 90s, often believing I was too sensitive to truly make it in the industry. I worked, learned, and built my foundation there, but I wondered if my heart and humanity were liabilities. Over time, I pivoted into earning a Masters in Early Childhood and Special Education, full-time motherhood of two, one on the autism spectrum, event production, and even in HR at a Fortune 100 global financial institution, adding even more layers and perspective to where I currently stand. Now, as I approach age 49 (T-minus 33 days) I see how the fashion industry has shifted, thanks in part to changemakers like Maryanne, who lead with vision and inclusivity.
