As a pageant girl, the initial feedback I got was, ‘you have talent but you're not pretty and you're never going to be pretty.’ So I focused my energy on being a beauty queen, and the next thing you know it’s, ‘oh she's beautiful but she has no talent.’ So I figured out from an early age that you can't let other people define you, you have to define yourself.
