Just in case you’re feeling a little devilish today, we’ve got the El Diablo for inspiration 😈 This little devil was originally named Mexican El Diablo in Trader Vic’s 1946 book of food and drink. It was originally a very simple drink of lime, tequila, creme de cassis and ginger ale over ice, and we don’t stray far from the initial version—we just add agave. Creme de cassis is a French black currant liqueur—black currants are native to central and Northern Europe. They’re a small sweet-tart berry that was actually banned in the United States back in the 1910s for presenting a threat to the timber industry since they carried white pine blister rust that attacked white pine trees. Over time, with disease-resistant evolution, local governments were given the option to lift the ban in 1966 though some didn’t until the early 2000s. Nothing screams devilish like a nationwide ban on something 😏
