Director Michael Haneke made a shot-for-shot remake of his own film 10 years after its initial release. Haneke felt that making the film this way would be an exercise in reflecting and criticizing violence used in media, and took a similar approach to the original in terms of shooting with the camera placed in neutral, objective positions.
