With a heavy heart I share that my dear comrade and sister-in-arms Joye Braun (Wambli Wiyakawin) passed yesterday at her home. I am still in shock and feel a deep grief for this loss. She was one of THE most fierce warriors I have ever known and was unashamed in her love for her people and lands. The truest definition of water protector, Joye was a leader and guiding voice in the fight to stop the expansion of fossil fuels & false solutions. She was my sister in struggle and a firestorm when pissed off, lol. But her passion to protect the future was never in doubt and I loved that about her.
