Inspired by the flora and fauna of her native Dominican Republic, artist Hulda Guzmán (@huldaguzman) presents a luscious, green Caribbean setting in "Under the Flamboyán" (2020). In this body of work, Guzmán embraces nature as the main protagonist, emphasizing humanity’s relatively small role in the ecosystem.
As in traditional Chinese landscape paintings, the human subjects in the composition are small in scale relative to the verdant environment that envelops them. The artist presents a world in which the hierarchies between human beings and non-human beings are leveled, allowing them to live together in harmony. #HispanicHertiageMonth #HuldaGuzman #Latinxartists
