Who is the artist?
Of late I have been trying to distinguish between my professional pictures and who I am personally. But how much can I separate me from my face?
Then to see my face, on your lota, I felt objectified.
I was not a person to you, just a representative of an industry. Im glad it’s not personal – and yet it’s undeniably shameful that it was so impersonal that you didn’t even need my permission.
In all honesty I would have let it slide if your concept felt intentional, but I’m a fan of your work and I know you can, and do, much better. I’d put your art first, as well as your name, unfortunately I think it’s a lazy piece. But I do forgive you, as we all make mistakes – there was just a boundary to draw.
An artist has the responsibility to speak truth directly and boldly, no doubt. But at whose expense? Are you magnifying life, diving into an intricate experience, Or reinstating a cliché whilst belittling someone’s truth and existence.
Ps: I’m no art critic but this hit home. Mera jism meri marzi.
