The announcement from #tyrellterry was so brave. So many people, including myself, struggle with severe anxiety. It doesn’t just mean you’re stressed out or overwhelmed. Anxiety is debilitating and serious. Anxiety played a part in my decision to relocate to Dallas, Texas, from #DC and eventually quit #DOJ. I’m so glad that more people are speaking up and normalizing what it looks like to have a mental health issue. The more we openly discuss it, the more the stigma is reduced. 💜 So many people with anxiety are high performers with incredible accomplishments. However, success does not negate the serious symptoms of #anxiety that will never go away. Managing anxiety requires setting boundaries, seeking treatment from healthcare professionals, and requesting reasonable accommodations as permitted by the Americans with Disabilities Act. ⚖️ As someone who has been punished for having anxiety because employers, courts, and others simply refuse to understand the legitimate health implications living with anxiety presents, I completely understand and applaud Tyrell Terry’s decision. 💜 After escaping domestic violence and returning home to 🇨🇱 from the #DMV Dallas provided me with the resources to better treat my symptoms of anxiety, support my desire to launch @pardonattorney and my run for Congress @tammymd4you ⚖️ Having moved back to the #DMV earlier this year, spending the past week in the #DFW was bittersweet for a number of reasons. Nevertheless, Dallas always brings me a sense of calm & peace to allow me to keep up the fight. ⚖️ Every one of my accomplishments that folks are intrigued by was done while I struggled with severe anxiety. I’ve been dealing with pursuing my career while balancing severe anxiety since 2007. A hostile work environment at #OPA (employment lawsuit settled) and domestic violence exacerbated my anxiety. ⚖️ The symptoms vary, but are literally debilitating.
