~What Can I Do?~ Hike on Mount Timpanogos 16x in 16 weeks. A goal that stemmed from lack of satisfaction in my fitness and time outdoors. A goal that required a sacrifice of sleep and comfort to fit it into a schedule focused on work, family, and home renovations. I remember the first week I started, it was a Wednesday during the last week of June. I simply started hiking with a plan to not stop and see how far I could get in an hour and a half. To my utter surprise I made it 4 miles up. I realized that hiking to the summit and back before I needed to start work was possible. Especially as I pushed myself and found ways to get stronger and faster. In my excitement I got back on the trail the following Friday of that same week. (The only time I did two in a single week) Funny enough, my 16 rounds were met with 1 summit. Not that I wasn’t pushing myself or getting the mileage in. My passion was rooted in the journey and not the destination. My eyes were opened to the patterns of nature. Each round had its accompanying reason for me to give up. Each round taught me something new about myself. To watch the sun rise as I pondered life, these are moments that will be forever priceless for me. And although I never reached my side goal of a summit and back in 3 hours, I am gearing up to do that next year. Taking the lessons and experiences I learned to push myself even more. It’s difficult to put to words all that this goal meant to me and taught me. It’s something I’m still processing aspects of. And trust me, I could write a book on the 16 rounds. But for now I am content with sharing little segments here and there. And if you are ever wondering, “what can I do?” When it comes to doing more, becoming more, experiencing more...well you will be surprised what you can accomplish. —A special thanks to Austin (@tor_babes) for going with me on a few rounds and really pushing me to new limits.
