When we ask our children „What did you do?“ it can easily come of as a shameful way already judging them for „messing up“. When our kids make a mistake (like we all do) we want to really understand what happened. And who wants to be truthful when already feeling like getting in trouble before you even had the chance to explain yourself. When we ask „What happened?“ our children are way more open to explain the situation. We are able to connect. We can let go of our unconscious thoughts of „what did they do again?!“ we can take a moment to listen and find a solution to the problem. Together.
