The Maya believed that cenotes were windows into the underworld, a crossroads of the living and dead. For as much as water was cleansing and brought life to crops and cities, it also symobolized death and rebirth. To enter the water was a euphemism for dying and the cenote was a place of sacrifice. Life was pulled up from the well and death was pushed back down to ensure the cycle continued.
When you free dive into a cenote, old parts of you shed and die off with each meter. You release the limiting mindset that weighs you down. As you ascend you are reborn, welcomed back lighter and clearer as you take in that first big inhale at the surface.
Thank you @kestyoga for the amazing retreat, @mattfreediver for the incredible photos, @adambombr1 @bikini_kiki and @fer.mo.me for training our group, holding space, and keeping us all safe 🤍🙏🏼 and shout out to the Mayan shaman for blessing us all before we went in.
