This is what loss and damage finance could have prevented. The situation in Pakistan is so bad emergency and disaster relief services are suggesting that if people can not leave their homes or evacuate, that they take shifts sleeping so that people don’t drown in their sleep. With millions of acres of crop completely destroyed, a country already in economic crisis and a people dealing with insane inflation, the poorest will indeed starve. It already costs a days worth of wages to afford tomatoes and bread for so many. And although Pakistan’s textile industry literally clothes the rest of the world, we produce less than 1% of GHG emmisson yet we pay in dead bodies time and time again. Pakistan is ranked the 5th most affected country in THE world to climate change. The people of Balochistan, Khyber Paktunkua and South Punjab don’t need thoughts and prayers from the Global North they need the loss and damage funding promised in 2009.
