A few of you have messaged me to ask about preparing our children for the inevitable exposure to new bugs when going back to school. I’ve pulled together some daily essentials from my own kitchen plus a supplement that has become more popular to help reduce the length of a viral infection - lactoferrin. My children eat kefir and/or natural yogurt every day so I don’t buy it but have included in the lineup.
A few things to remember:
- coughs and colds are a part of the immune building process
- children catch an average of 6-8 viruses every year
- maintaining good hand hygiene and outside play as much as possible will also help
- whilst we can’t avoid all the bugs, we can help support our kids’ immune systems with good food, plenty of good sleep and water as their main drink (after age 2).
