Like most of my friends and colleagues in the wedding industry, I firmly believe that there is no better job than the one I have. @aloksharmardg is wrong if he thinks I need retraining and he is wrong if he thinks my job and this sector is unviable. He is wrong if he thinks weddings won’t outlast this pandemic and he is so wrong to think that any of the 400,000 suppliers in this talented, vibrant and creative sector are going to give up fighting for their couples and for the jobs they love. To make such a comment demonstrates where priorities lie - with the big, flashy high impact head-line grabbing projects that generate big numbers but very little joy. Weddings are real life, not moonshots and pie in the sky. Give me real, honest and authentic above spin and rhetoric. Weddings aren’t going anywhere. We’re here forever and there’s no better job. I must extend my thanks this week to @keirstarmer @ed_miliband and @lucympowell for believing in weddings, for taking our businesses seriously and for asking #whataboutweddings. It’s humbling and it’s so appreciated.
