It’s been a very long time since I have written a feature story for @bof, so I am really proud to share this one. Talking to @deepikapadukone was a real pleasure as she was extremely generous with her time and candid with her thoughts and feelings, which always makes for the best interviews. My own personal history is interwoven with the migration of the Indian diaspora across 4 continents, from Mumbai where my maternal grandfather was born to Kenya and Tanzania where my parents were born after their parents and grandparents migrated as labourers from pre-partition India under the the British colonial system to Canada where I was raised among my community of Gujarati and Kutchi-speaking Ismaili Muslims to London which I now call home and back to Mumbai where we shot this beautiful story and where my partner @nikhilmansata is from. Its like a full circle moment for me. It’s long overdue that South Asians get a global platform and recognition and I’m immensely honoured and privileged that I was able to share my platform to tell her inspiring story of discipline, resilience, hard work and purpose, the same Indian values that my parents raised me with.
