Photographing and filming brown bears is humbling work; the kind that leaves you feeling small, fragile, and yet somehow infinite as we are all connected to the same ecosystem. The ocean waters I work to protect alongside my team foster the young salmon that inevitably find their way back to their forest streams, and into the mouths of hungry bears like this. Every part of our planet is nourished in some way by the rhythms and cycles of the sea, the tidal heartbeat of all life on Earth. As I sat close enough to this massive male grizzly to smell the salmon on his breath, I realized just how thin the boundary between humans and our wild kin truly is— if it exists at all.
