Inspired by his time in Uganda, Dallas native Blake Smith and his wife Sarah decided to create a savanna experience on the Pedernales. Walden Retreats Hill Country sits on 96 prime acres along the Pedernales River, about an hour west of Austin. It was named in tribute to Henry David Thoreau but inspired by safari-style eco hotels.
