Bring your phones, tablets, and laptops to join in artist and composer Guillermo Galindo’s (@galin_dog) immersive, experimental performance “Remote Control” performed by renowned string quartet ETHEL (@ethelcentral) next Tuesday, July 26. Four tracks of streaming sound and intermittent light, emitted through the audience’s digital devices, smart phones, and tablets, create a shared sonic environment with the quartet. The first movement of the performance merges the music of the string quartet with the audience’s live playing of pre-recorded sounds of war video games, military cockpits, and “after attack” soundscapes from all over the world. The recently written second movement will be premiered in this concert, becoming an epilogue to the first movement. Originally commissioned and premiered by @kronos_quartet for their #50ForTheFuture project, “Remote Control” is both a composition for a string quartet and an audience-interactive sonic environment that comments on the dehumanization of warfare though the use of remote digital technologies, video games, and military drones. The work is presented on @highlinenyc in conversation with Sam Durant’s (@studiosamdurant) Plinth commission “Untitled (drone).” Two performances, July 26 at 8:30 and 9pm on the Spur at 30th St. Learn more and RSVP via the link in profile ⬆️ 📸: Zen Cohen (@zencohenstudio) #HighLinePlinth #FiftyfortheFuture
