“No name” buck is down! November 29, you won’t be forgotten. Opening day was a true success. I shot the BIGGEST deer I’ve ever shot and to make it all the better, I was with my dad! To set the tone, “no name” was caught on the trail camera for the first and only time on 11/16. We didn’t name the buck since he wasn’t a regular. If you know me, you know I have to have a set plan. Well, Wednesday we had no official hunting plan because I came in on a later flight. We couldn’t get in our stand without bumping multiple deer that were in that area, so our plan was to scout the hillside and look up towards the stand and just get a feel for the next day. We were sitting on the hillside and the deer started moving and we saw a few nice bucks. The wind was perfect. The weather was nice. As we were sitting there my dad pulled his phone out and showed me a photo he took that morning while hunting in the stand we were watching. (The Pantry, the famous vv and pawpaw hunting spot, if ya know ya know). The photo was of “no name” and he was within feet of my dad that morning. My dad passed on “no name” in hopes he would come back when I was hunting... Most of the deer were coming from our right , going to the left to bed down for the night. Once they went to the left they don’t usually come back towards us. We eventually saw “no name” towards the right chasing a doe all over, he was too far to shoot. He then made his way to the left and we were prepared to not see him again that evening. 20 minutes later I just so happened to look to the left and about 50 yards “no name” was looking right at us. He didn’t spook and didn’t immediately run off but he knew something was off. I was getting ready and was finding him in the scope. He then ran off and was at around 150 yards, I put it right on him and dropped him. It happened all so fast and I can’t fathom how big this deer really is. I can’t thank my dad enough for being the best outfitter I know. It’s been a rough year for my dad and I’m so thankful for yet again another amazing memory made together. I love you dad. #kansaswhitetail #deerhunting #bbd #bigbuckdown #kansas #hunting #outdoors #whitetailbuck #openingday
