Our new image sonification of Pismis 24 for @nasahubble! This sonification brings an image of the star cluster Pismis 24 and the nebula it resides within to life through sound. This is about 8000 light years away and appears in the arm of Sagittarius. The bright star at the center of the open cluster is actually two very massive stars, 100 solar masses each. Here, a top-down scan maps brightness to volume and pitch for both the stars and nebula. The stars are assigned to musical pitches played on a classical guitar (brighter stars are louder and higher pitched), and the nebula uses a continuous range of frequencies (brighter regions are louder and higher pitched).
