It operates as a powerful control mythology in the dominant culture, illustrating a snapshot of rosy relations between European colonizers & the Mashpee Wampanoag tribe. However, the 1st historical record of colonists celebrating a "thanksgiving” is not related to a harvest festival or cross-cultural harmony, but to a celebration of a massacre of over 700 Pequot women & children in 1637. Mutual aid is when people meet each other's needs, with the shared understanding that the systems we live in are not, & that we can meet our needs together without having to pressure power structures to do the right thing. Mutual Aid helps communities solve the problems that the state has failed to solve, or has created itself.
