30% of Earth is made up of the Pacific Ocean. This makes it the largest ocean on Earth, which is home to the deepest waters, largest reefs and most volcanos. But the pacific is actually slowly shrinking. When tectonic plates crash together, one usually goes underneath the other. This causes mountain ranges and trenches to form, but also rids the sea floor of old crust. Hence the Pacific is shrinking around .5 square km per year. On the other hand, the Atlantic is growing, as the plates are separated when seismic activity occurs. Interestingly, the two balance each other out. But it does help us understand that someday new supercontinents may exist and the Pacific ocean might eventually disappear. In fact, scientists have already named the possible new supercontinents that may appear 100 million years from now: Novopangea, Pangea Ultima, Aurica, and Amasia are the possibilities. We won’t be around to know. All I can think is that we are so damn lucky to be alive in the current state of our planet. Earth is constantly evolving and changing so let’s not take it for granted. . . . #explorehisearth #wildernesstones #earthstoke #roamerhub #letswander #adventureenthusiasts #malibu #elmatadorbeach #elmatador #beachscape #beachscene #pchroadtrip #malibubeach #landscapephotography #folknature #earthhotspots #earthbound #beachscape #oceanscape #oceanphotos #earthfocus #malibu #seascape #seascapes #seascape_lovers #seascapephotography #seascape_captures
