#RecyclingBeauty explores the semantic instability of reused ancient artefacts, thus their continuous mutation of meaning. Such is the case with the "Antoninus Pius as Saint Joseph" statue: thought for a long time to be a depiction of St. Joseph, it is the result of the union between two different works dating back to the second century AD. The head portrays the face of Antoninus Pius; the body, on the other hand, depicts the flamen, the Roman priest devoted to a single deity, in his characteristic robe.
