Grand Canyon Solo R3! I am not one to do things like this all on my own! I love being with friends on adventures. This is one of the hardest things I’ve ever done! I did R3 in October with my friends but this was much harder! I tried not to rest too much, I tried to eat while moving, and not shot too long at water stops, I wanted to finish in sub 13 hours (moving time), and before dark (because I’m a 🐔 🤣). It was about 105° outside with no shade for the last 20-25ish miles. I sat in the river any chance I could get to refresh, and cool my core temperature. It was gorgeous! I kept thinking about how incredible it is I get to experience this throughout the whole 50 miles. The last 15 miles was rough. I was nauseous, fatigued and couldn’t eat cause it made the nausea worse. Electrolytes it was! I the ascent to the north rim (aka my car) is about 6 thousand feet of climbing over abt 5 miles. It was hard but I loved the hard! I kept David Goggins in my head, he kept me going. At Coconino overlook, I knew I had .7 miles left and I had about 15 minutes before I hit 11 hours whaaaa?!?!?! I was stoked!! I picked up my pace, I made it to the top, my time was at 10:54:30, but I was at 49.5 miles. Aaaaah do I finish the 50 miles and risk going over 11 hours or settle for under 50 miles?!?! I went for it!!! I ran up a hill knowing the way back down I could book it. I turned...2 minutes left and .3 miles, and tired legs. I ran. HARD! That watch beeped, 50 miles, 10:59:30!!!! I am proud of myself and grateful for my body that allows me to do hard things! The end!
