Teaching is a job. It can be a really great and rewarding job, but it doesn’t change the fact that it truly is just a job. I’ve put this job before my family, friends, and myself. Many of us have. And sadly this job doesn’t care about us the way we care about it. This system doesn’t take care of its employees and just tells us we are replaceable and should leave if we aren’t happy. Now that the nation is struggling to find teachers, you’d think the system would be changing. Nope. Instead we are seeing places lowering the requirements. Raising class sizes. Punishing those that remain in our schools. It’s beyond frustrating. We must continue to speak up, from inside and outside the classroom.
