If you ever feel in a rut, make a long term goal/project to help you get over it. Im currently working on a long term project to create 8-10 stunning seascape images showcasing Southern California’s best beaches. Taking up a bigger project like this has a few benefits. Firstly, I’m more motivated to go out to shoot at least once or twice a week. That’s because having a tangible goal with my work is pushing me to get out and explore. Secondly, it’s forcing me to explore places I never would have even known about if I wasn’t directly searching them. And most importantly, it has forced me to work on creating singular stunning images, rather than just travel photos. All together, these factors have made me push much harder towards my long term goal of working full time as a landscape photographer for something like NatGeo. I realized I wasn’t quite good enough to get there.
