Bison are fascinating creatures. Luckily for Alberta, roughly 700 wood and plains bisons roam freely throughout Elk Island National Park, just a 35-minute drive east of Edmonton’s downtown! If you have ever seen a bison in-person, you will know that these majestic animals are big...like the largest land mammals in North America kind of big! Fully grown wood bison can weigh between 680-1100 kg (1500-2500 lbs), or about the weight of a small car - and plains bison are not far behind! *Please note that these photos were taken by a photographer.
