Leanne Betasamosake Simpson is a Nishnaabeg songwriter, a writer with seven books under her belt, an artist and a scholar. I’ve seen her perform in several venues across Canada and its always a treat for my ears and heart. On her album ’Theory of Ice’ she did a version of #WillieDunn ’s ‘I Pity the Country’ which just sounds fantastic. The tone of this album is crisp yet warm, the spoken words are recorded beautifully. As she calls out and calls in, there’s space for breath and her lingering messages.
