What began as an idea, simple, instinctive, and full of energy, soon took shape as one of Natya’s most defining productions: Shakti Chakra. When Hema Rajagopalan was invited to present at prestigious Ravinia Festival of music and dance in Chicago, the seeds of this work came together naturally, through conversations, inspirations, and her deep understanding of movement and meaning. What emerged was Shakti Chakra — the cycle of energy that reflects life itself. Creation, sustenance, protection, purification, and dissolution, each of these Godly acts is expressed first through pure dance, where these timeless ideas become meaning through pure movements. Following each of the abstract segment there is an expressional narrative explored through hindu mythology. This was specially created to reach out to diverse audience, in 1995. Over the years, Shakti Chakra has become a cornerstone of Natya’s journey, a work that continues to evolve, inspire, and connect across generations. As we step into our 50th year, we are delighted to share a glimpse of Shakti Chakra once again at Prakashaha, our 50th Annual Day, presented by the very first Shakti Chakra group! Join us on October 26 to celebrate the energy, artistry, and spirit that continue to define Natya.
