Maya, looking back, who are some mentors that positively shaped your life and how / why? 👉🏽 “I could name 9,000 people right now. Been very blessed to have been mentored by so many strong, smart and talented individuals. Definitely would not be who I am today without all of the people who have shaped me into me. A huge influence for me is my mom. She taught me self expression, laughter, discipline, work ethic and unconditional love. There are SO many teachers, friends, partners, and artists who have taught me a lot about myself and who I can become. I really don’t think there is anything more beautiful than when people pour wisdom & kindness into each other to uplift what we may not see about ourselves.” Can you tell me a little bit more about your mom and her background? “My mom is a superstar. She was born in Italy, then moved to Belgium with her family when she was 6 or 7. She was always a performer and musically gifted. She moved to New York when she was 16 to dance professionally and barely spoke any English. Her presence & energy makes a mark on everyone! Her constant creativity & passion was what gave me the confidence to pursue my dreams. She has mentored so many people and continues today as a school teacher for kids who don’t have that nurturing support system.
