A new study off the coast of California showed that filter-feeding whales are the largest consumers of microplastics, ingesting 1 billion particles over their feeding season. 🐋 This is not surprising as millions of tons of plastic enter the ocean each year, where it breaks up into small toxic pieces. “It’s a sad story about whales, but also it’s a story about us,” Dr Matthew Savoca, at Stanford University said. “Whether it’s cod or salmon or other fish, they are eating those same fish that the humpback whales are eating.” 🐳 All creatures deserve to live in a world free from plastic pollution.
